Hilton is an American hotel group founded by Conrad Hilton in the early 20th century. Hilton remains the second largest global hotel group with 4,278 properties and 700,000 rooms in 85 countries. Its loyalty program, called the "Hilton HHonors" brings together more than 29 million people around the world, including 2.5 million new members in 2010.


In 1919 Conrad Hilton bought his first hotel in Cisco (Texas). The first hotel to be called "Hilton" was built in Dallas in 1925. In 1943, Hilton became the first hotel chain in the United States. In 1949, the group opened its first hotel outside the United States in San Juan (Puerto Rico) and bought the Waldorf-Astoria in New York.

In December 2005, Hilton hotels are reunited. Separately amicable in 1964, the American Hilton Hotels Corporation bought the name and 400 hotels of the British Hilton Group which focuses on its gaming business and ceases all hotel activity.

The group was bought by the Blackstone Group in July 2007 for more than 26 billion dollars1.

In October 2014, the group sold the Waldorf-Astoria hotel to a Chinese insurance company for $ 1.95 billion, Hilton continuing to manage the hotel2.

In October 2016, HNA Group announced the acquisition of a 25% stake in Hilton Hotels & Resorts at Blackstone Group for $ 6.5 billion3.
